Interlude Artist Residency
Welcome.
Interlude is a first of its kind artist residency dedicated to serving artists and their families. We give parent artists the chance to achieve artistic excellence, to connect with the rich history and culture of the Hudson Valley, the local community, and the land.
Artists need space and time to pursue their vision.
Residencies are among the greatest opportunities for rejuvenation, connection, and artistic growth. Unfortunately, this path is virtually closed to young parents, since so few residencies in the US welcome families.
We created Interlude in 2019 to address this gap. We are the first major residency in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to supporting the concurrent needs of creative and family lives.
Our selective, fully-funded residency program allows parent artists to make breakthrough work, get feedback, and expand their network. Everyone benefits when these voices are part of the cultural conversation. We are modeling ways to make the arts ecosystem more sustainable and equitable.
Interlude is set in the thriving Hudson Valley arts community and residents have extensive opportunities for studio visits with notable area artists, curators, and arts professionals, as well as for meaningful community engagement.
“This residency is vital. I have never felt so understood as an artist-parent. Interlude really met me where I was at, as an artist. Add on to this a community of people who understand the peculiarities of your current life–what it means to make art and raise children at the same time –this was so impactful for me. It was a once in a life-time creative opportunity that I feel so grateful to have experienced.”
